MASSAGE

Swedish massage therapy is the most well-known and widely practiced type of therapeutic massage, treating the entirety of the body, supporting mental and emotional health, in addition to physical health.

A Swedish-style massage primarily involves long, soft, kneading strokes (effleurage) to release tension from the deepest muscles of your body paired with kneading (petrissage) focusing on areas specifically discussed with the massage therapist, impacting deeper layers of connective tissue. Utilizing effleurage and petrissage can be very effective in helping work out deep muscle knots allowing the therapist to reduce or even eliminate knots. Swedish massage focuses on true muscle relaxation, targeting superficial muscles (rather than strictly focusing on deep connective tissues) and increasing blood circulation. It is performed to energize the body and improve overall health.

A traditional Swedish massage involves the whole body. You will begin on either your back or your stomach and flip over at the halfway point. Massage oil and/or lotion is used to protect the skin from friction. If you have an area of particular concern, such as a tightness in the neck or shoulders, you can discuss treatment of this area with your therapist prior to treatment, and may request more time spent in a specific area during your massage.
